Agriturismo Serine is a traditional farm (masseria) growing citrus, olives, vegetables etc at the tip of Italy's heel. Our room was comfortably sized, with modern bathroom, and opened onto it's own small terrace, partly shaded. There are mesh screens over the doors and windows, though in October insects didn't seem to be a problem. Dinners were tasty traditional food, much locally sourced. Breakfast included a selection of home made preserves and honey which were particularly delicious. These are available to buy, together with their own olive oil. The total bill for half board including a very drinkable jug of wine, came to 45 euros pppn. The only down side was the presence of animal (cat?) mess on the ground outside the apartment which became apparent when trodden into the room in the dark. Salento is a beautiful area; rugged coast, footpaths among the olive groves, beautiful towns, quite a different atmosphere from further north. Italy running at half speed.
